Service Description

Imaginook is happy to present Sugar Skull Decorating Workshop as part of our Cultural Heritage Innitiative with SF Bay Area artist Diego Marcial Rios. Choose one of the two dates to join us! Hand paint and decorate a Mexican sugar skull steeped in the rich cultural history of Mexico after getting an expert demonstration from artist Diego Marcial Rios. ​ Breathtaking colorful Sugar Skulls have long been part of the Mexican culture. Beautifully decorated Sugar Skulls are often used as decorations on graves and altars during Dia de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead. Once you have got the basics down, roll up your sleeves to create and hand paint your own unique, expressive work. ●Brief Historical / Cultural Lecture (15 minutes) The host will deliver a brief historical summary of the Sugar Skull art media during the Spanish Colonial Period in Mexico. There will be a brief historical summary of the origin of sugar art in Italian culture and how and why this unique media was introduced to native people of Northern America. ●Handcraft a Sugar Skull Learn how to make a colorful piece of art influenced by Mexican culture. You will learn the ingredients and application techniques necessary to decorate a sugar skull. You will also be briefly introduced to how to make your own simple molds out of silicon. ●Hand decorative a Sugar Skull “Blank Sugar Skulls” and frosting instructions will be available for attendees to use. Let your imagination run wild! Personalize your own sugar skull. ● Make Artwork Under the Guidance of a Renowned Artist See live examples of the Sugar Skull making process and get inspired by an artist who has been exhibiting for over 30 years. ​ All materials are provided. Space is limited, registration is required. The price is $60 per participant. Tuesday, October 12, 6-8 pm Saturday, October 16, 11 am - 1 pm

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation/Refunds: Camps cannot be prorated and no refund can be given for any missed days, late registrations, or dropped camps. A refund will be given if you notify us 1 month (30 days) before the first day of camp/activity. As always, a 3.5% bank processing fee will be deducted from your refund. Less than 30 days cancellation (30 days - 7 business days) - we will be happy to offer you 100% studio credit or transfer to any other studio camp or activity with no extra charge (studio credit can be applied to any studio classes and programs). If you are canceling the camp/activity less than 7 business days prior to the first day of camp/activity - we won't be able to offer you a refund. In any case, contact us and we will be happy to help. A full refund will be given if the camp/activity is canceled by Imaginook LLC.
