Mondays, February 1 - March 8, 2021, 7-9 pm.
In this course, students will practice sketching techniques using markers of different thicknesses. We will learn how to choose a subject, about rhythm and focal point, about proportions and perspective. Students will make dozens of sketches of people and city life from life and from photo reference.
Instructor: Tetiana Taganska.
Materials provided: sketchbook, markers. Watercolors are not provided (optional).
In case you want to expand a selection of supplies, check our recommendations:
Sketchbook. We are going to use markers only so you can use literally any blank notebook. If you are going to use watercolors, make sure you have watercolor or mixed media paper in your sketchbook. Size for sketchbook may vary from 5.5''x8'' to 9''x12''. We recommend these sketchbooks: this sketchbook or this one.
For work, we will use 3 markers: brush-tipped, fine point (~0.5), and medium-size (~1). Any brand will work. If you are going to make mixed media sketches and add watercolor make sure your markers are not water-based.
Some markers sets for urban sketching.
Watercolor.
For urban sketching you take your materials with you to the city, so you need some travel size watercolor set or watercolor brush pens.
This is a link to a nice and good quality watercolor set. It comes with a little paintbrush and a build-in palette.
